# Count the cash box and record over or short

> Box Cash shows each cash box or drawer, the day's cash in and out, and what should be in it now. Type what you counted; the difference is recorded as over or short, and nothing else changes.

## Steps

1. Open Box Cash. Each cash box shows the opening amount, today's cash in, cash out, and the amount the books expect.
2. Press Count on the box, type the notes and coins you have (or the total).
3. Save. Over or short is shown as a number for the day; a correction, if you make one, is a separate entry with a reason.

## Questions

**Where does a counter's cash go at night?**
Move it with Cash out from the drawer to the main cash box or the bank; Box Cash records both sides.

**Does a count change the books?**
No. A count is evidence. Only a correction you make on purpose posts an entry.
